Jota Castanets
Jota is a type of dance and folk singing that is accompanied by the use of castanets. It is present in many parts of Spain. Paying attention to location, we find different types of Jota: the Aragonese, the Castilian, the Manchegan, the Valencian and the Asturian, among many others.
At Castañuelas del Sur, along with flamenco castanets, we also have jota castanets. Handmade with resin-impregnated paper and cotton sheets, an ideal combination for this characteristic style.
Aragonese Jota Castanets
Aragon is where jota has been the most deeply rooted. It has been passed down from generation to generation, becoming an essential asset of its patrimonial culture. For the Aragonese population it produces a deep feeling of belonging and identification with their past. Aragonese jotas are usually present in many of their celebrations and events, the most noted being the “Official Aragonese Jota Competition”.
Aragonese jota schools and folklore groups play a key role in the conservation and circulation of this legacy. From Castañuelas del Sur, we are in charge of supplying numerous jota academies.
